The Helio Sequence is an indie-rock duo from Oregon and they have released most of their stuff on Sub-Pop, so from that alone one could posit they are probably a likable band. My friend Ried Johnson turned me onto them years ago, perhaps in 2004 or five. Back then they sounded akin to Pinback, and I believe they have a tie to the early Modest Mouse albums. Their sound has evolved and with the recent release of their full length, "Negotiations", we have a little over a decade of development and five full-lengths to examine. T.H.S. seems to have opened their sound up a bit, with more ringing guitars and long, tonal wails, as opposed to their earlier, perhaps, lighter and syncopated songs. I get a hint of some Small Brown Bike and maybe a little Appleseed Cast in the background. I'm not sure. I really like Negotiations, however, I want to re-listen to their whole catalog and get a clearer picture of the bands progression.
